• Rose, often explores the play dough. Today, was a great example of her creating with the play dough, she was making cupcakes. The first one she showed me was a large pink cupcake with swirly whirly icing. She then asked for a small stick to poke into the play dough. She continued making cupcakes with all sorts of creative twists.
  • A small provocation of sea creatures with a sea creature puzzle was set out on the bench to explore. Zachary took an interest in these. Sarah extended his exploration offering a bowl of water for the sharks to play in. Zachary was so busy exploring with the water and all the sea creatures. He role playing talking as he explored.


  • Rose is extending her own learning and skills as she revisits an interest. Contribution/Mana tangata: Children become increasingly capable of recognising and appreciating their own ability to learn/ te rangatiratanga.
  • Zachary, you seem to really enjoy small world play. Role playing family relationships and showing an understanding of these sea creatures. Belonging/Mana Whenua: Children become increasingly capable of making connections between people, places, and things in their world/te waihanga hononga.


  • Next Friday for baking day let’s explore fondant icing and exploring making real decorations for cupcakes.
