Welcome back everybody and a special welcome to our kindy community to Franko Huljich and his family.  We hope your days here are full of fun, laughter and learning!

Afternoon children– We will be focussing on the Alphabet and Smart Words this term. There will also be plenty of opportunities for fine motor skill development activities during these sessions too.

Outdoor environment – With the cooler weather upon us, please make sure your child has appropriate warm clothes that are named and taken home at the end of session. We have the outdoor environment available to the children during all types of weather so we suggest gumboots, rain jackets and a woolly hat.

This is also the time of the seasonal coughs and colds that plague everyone, and with RSV and Covid 19 still a concern, we ask that you continue to be on the cautious side and keep your child at home if they are showing signs of being unwell. We also provide tissues for the children and teach them personal health skills such as sneezing and coughing into our elbows, hand washing and nose blowing. Parents must still wear masks during drop off/pick up

Mosaic Wednesdays– This term, our Wednesday activity will centre around a creation by the tamariki of some large mosaic pavers for our outdoor garden area. The tamariki will plan, draw, design and then create each paver in accordance with connections to our local curriculum/community.

Construction

The tamariki continue to demonstrate a strong interest in construction, with blocks, and a variety of loose parts and recycled materials. If you have anything along these lines to contribute, that is of an appropriate size, we would love to receive it. Building plans, construction photos, etc…would be great too!

Upcoming Events and Dates:

Pēpēha-This term we will be helping the children to create and hopefully learn to verbalise their own unique pepeha…more information to follow.

Pyjama Day (when the children and teachers come to kindy dressed in pyjamas) will be held on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th August.

Our Mum’s Night is on Thursday 8th September. Note this date on your calendars now. It is always a fun filled night and a great way to meet other mums. This year we will have a Self Care theme with a skin and makeup specialist visiting us. We will also have a clothes swap area for those of you regretting your online lockdown purchases from last year!

We will also be working on the children’s artwork for calendars this term, which you will have the opportunity to buy.

We look forward to another great term, and a happy time of learning and development for all the children. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the teachers, or email Olivia or Melanie as required.

Warm regards,

Olivia, Annie, Wendy and Melanie.
